ABOUT US

Our Origin Story

R.A.W. Society is a non-profit that works with incarcerated people who are released from prison. The organization focuses on reconnecting individuals with the community through education and various support services. We encourage strength in the community and hope to set a positive example by standing up for social justice and promote healthy living.

Our story began in June 2017 when co-founders Rhoda Fong and Sujata Bakshi decided it was time to stand up for social justice. Both Fong and Bakshi majored in the Bachelor's of Criminology program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in British Columbia. Through years of research and experiential learning, Fong and Bakshi agreed that social change is important for community growth. We believe that although everyone has a past, whether it be good or bad, we are all deserving of second chances. No one should have to walk in shame because of a wrong decision. We learn from our mistakes to grow stronger and better ourselves in the next chapter of our lives. At R.A.W. Society we believe everyone starts off with a blank page. It is up to us to write our story and fill the pages with authentic life experiences.
